On May 15th, in his signature straw cowboy hat Dave Proctor left St. John’s, Newfoundland, on his record-breaking cross-Canada attempt. He is chasing Al Howie’s 72 days and 10 hours record, set in 1991. Dave is the prime candidate to best this time. He is one of Canada’s top ultra runners, holding the national 24, 48, and 72-hour distance record. This is Dave’s second attempt at the cross Canada fastest known time. His first attempt three years ago was derailed on day 32 due to a back injury.

Now 52 days into his journey, Dave is well on his way to smashing the 31-year-old record. Dave has been averaging 105km daily as he makes his way through the 12 pairs of shoes he brought along with him. At his current pace, he will complete the run in 66 days on July 21st.
